Story Time : Dr. Raouf Mama Visits Ellsworth School

Story Time : Dr. Raouf Mama Visits Ellsworth School
On Thursday, May 14th Win-TV covered a visit from internally known multilingual storyteller Dr. Raouf Mama at Oliver Ellsworth Elementary School. Dr. Mama shared aspects of his native Benin by telling stories and singing songs with the help of some enthusiastic audience participation.
Dr. Mama is in high demand in the storytelling circuit and gives presentations of his indigenous tales to many public schools. Dr. Mama teaches at Eastern Connecticut State University and has received numerous awards, including a Greater Hartford Arts Council Individual Artist Award. His visit to Ellsworth school was a treat to students and faculty alike, combining the magic of multicultural communication and the historical importance of storytelling in an entertaining presentation for all to enjoy. Check the program schedule for air times on channel 5 and 95.

Public Support of House Bill

Public Access television in Connecticut is currently in a state of flux. The access stations in the Hartford area are trying to pass an amendment to House Bill 6604 that will secure the future of public access. If the bill is not passed at the legislature the fundamental rights and goals of public access could be in jeopardy.
This amendment is designed to establish regulations that protect the purpose and function of local access television. The amendment will require all video service providers to carry community television like other channels, create a review process to ensure compliance on consumer and PEG issues, and it would require both cable and video providers to be responsible for the maintenance and repair of transmission equipment.
Without this regulations PEG could become marginalized. PEG encourages localism and diversity and is also an outlet for community information. This amendment would create a level playing field for providers and ensure that access receives fair treatment. Please contact your legislators today to support this bill and protect public access.

What's New on Win-TV: WHS Graduation Special

What's New on Win-TV: WHS Graduation Special
At this time every year graduations play an important roll in the lives of students and their families and friends. Feelings of accomplishment, excitement, and even nostalgia and sadness at the closing of a life chapter surround such an event. These sentiments are just what Win-TV hopes to portray in a half hour program about the class of 2009. Win-TV's Rachel and Sarah are hitting the halls of Windsor High School to talk to graduating students and their teachers to get some last farewells and departing thoughts. The finished program will serve as a memoir for the class of 2009 and will give a wide array of students a chance to share their favorite high school memories and discuss their hopes for the future. This project is especially important to Sarah, who is also graduating this year. The program is expected to be finished in a couple of weeks and will be aired independently and also in conjunction with the WHS 2009 graduation ceremony in June.
