Concerts on the Green

Concerts on the Green
Just a reminder that Windsor's own "Summer Concerts on the Town Green" are coming back at the end of the month. Enjoy the musical stylings of a different group of musicians every Thursday evening at 7 PM on the Green. The summer series will kick off with contemporary Celtic masters Rathkeltair on June 25th.
If you're not able to make it to the concerts in person Win-TV will be recording them all so check the program schedule for performance air times!

Kind News is Back in Action at Ellsworth School

Kind News is Back in Action at Ellsworth School
Kind News, an informational news source for kids that is produced by the Humane Society, is circulating in Windsor schools and Win-TV would like to show the community exactly what that means for students. The paper is sponsored locally by Alstom Power, Konica Minolta, Griffin Land, Windsor Federal Savings, Com-Trust, Rabbett Insurance, and too many others to list. Each business supports 1 - 16 classrooms for nine months during the school year.
The half hour Kind News program shows how teachers implement Kind News in the classroom and what children learn from the paper. The goal is to explore how Windsor schools utilize the publication as both a reading tool and a learning prompt. The half hour documentary programs are valuable because they show the importance of such resources to students while also giving parents an inside look at the classroom. Just as students are encouraged to make connections between what they read and the world they live in, Kind News connects information with eager minds, and Win-TV connects schools with the community.
Watch out for the premiere episode of Ms. Sava's 5th grade class learning about tortoises on Ch. 5 and 95 this month.

Send Windsor to the Troops Summer Packing List

Send Windsor to the Troops Summer Packing List
For the past two years, local volunteer extraordinaire Ann Walsh has been doing a community service program called Send Hometown Windsor to the Troops here at Win-TV. This program and Win-TV coverage of different "packing parties" has generated a lot of attention and many generous donations. For the past two years, local businesses, organizations, and individual residents have donated various items and postage money for the monthly boxes that go out to Windsor related troops.
Please email names and addresses of men or women serving overseas to Win-TV and we will send letters and packages to them. Some of the items that we are now collecting include:

mosquito netting
fly tape
sunscreen
lip balm (in tubes only)
single serving drink mixes
canned fruit with flip tops
hard candy
socks
male and female deodorants
baby wipes

Many thanks go out to the community for it's continued support of this project!

WEF Paws for a Cause Unveiled

WEF Paws for a Cause Unveiled
Although Thursday, June 18th brought a torrent of rain that dampened plans for the "Just for Fun Dog Show," it couldn't wash away the smiles of children and adults alike at the long awaited "Paws for a Cause" dog unveiling and "Listen Up" story time at the Windsor Public Library.
This event gave the public an opportunity to view the numerous canine works of art and meet the artists and local sponsors. Each hand painted dog has it's own theme and personality, yet they all represent the unique diversity of Windsor and all of its residents and businesses.
After the doggy meet and greet, Windsor authors Leticia Colon De Mejias and Ron Harner read their latest children's books to a rapt audience for the Library's "Listen Up" program.
Despite the inclement weather, the event was a great success. After all, there's nothing better than curling up with a good book and a favorite puppy pal on a rainy day.
Be sure to check the Win-TV program guide for up to date air times for this event.
